Updates in Neuroscience for Perfumery (online)

Anna D’Errico discusses updates in neuroscience for perfumery, in the latest of her Science of Smell series.

Perfumery is an art. But it is based in science. While it is easy to forsake rigour in our quest for beauty, it is important not to lose sight of empirical truths. Neuroscientist Anna D’Errico is here to help, in this continuation of our Science of Smell series.

Understanding scent happens first through intuition and perception; how the brain takes over and moves from perception to understanding of an odor still remains largely unveiled. AI and algorithms are helping olfactory scientists and fragrance creators in the search of answers. Many of the big fragrance companies are investing and running projects of machine learning and neuroscience to hack some of these features. Where are we and what have we learned? Is the evidence sound?

In this class, Anna shares updates in neuroscience for perfumery, from AI to predicting emotions, science and myths. Join us for a facts-based session that provides an overview of latest neuroscience findings related to the state of perfumery.

This online talk is presented as part of The Science of Smell series, a collaboration between the Institute for Art and Olfaction and Anna D’Errico.
