Aromatic Accords Perfume Making Class

Join perfumers Darren Alan & Emily Schaber for online perfume making featuring aromatic notes. Accord building & live Q&A session included.

Join independent perfumers Emily Shaber of Shelter In Perfume and Darren Alan of Darren Alan Perfumes as they guide you through experiencing eight of the most commonly used aromatic materials in perfumery. From the comfort of your own home, you will explore each material through guided smelling, as well as delve into the role of aromatic notes in perfumery.

We will blend the aromatic materials to build accords, pairing them with our citrus, floral, wood, musk and spice materials in various combinations and exploring how they interplay with one another to create accords of varying characteristics, strengths and tenacity. We will conclude our class with a live Q&A session where Darren & Emily will answer your questions about the class content.

Learn to think and smell like a perfumer as we explore top, mid, and base notes. Sniff, imagine, and experiment, then select your favorite combinations for your unique creation.

We have curated for you a collection of the finest materials from around the world. No expensive equipment is required. Our optional add-on Raw Materials Kit is convenient, affordable, and packed with exquisite musks that we have hand-picked from our favorite suppliers. We have pre-diluted and measured your raw materials for you, so you don’t need perfumer’s alcohol, a scale, or other expensive lab equipment.

RAW MATERIALS KITS FOR THIS CLASS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AFTER 3/8/2024

If you choose to use your own materials for the class instead of purchasing our pre-made Raw Materials Kit, please prepare15mL of each material at the appropriate dilution prior to class. Be sure your materials are professional perfumery grade and are intended for fine fragrance creation. Fragrance oils, candle oils, oils from a supermarket and the like are not professional grade and may not produce a high quality fragrance composition.

You will need to purchase some inexpensive ancillary supplies such as plastic transfer pipettes (droppers), perfume test strips (paper blotters), dram glass vials with caps to store your creations, paper labels, and a small notebook and pencil for taking notes and writing down your accord formulas. These supplies are easily available from Amazon and Ebay. These items are not included in our Raw Materials Kit. You may also wish to have some paper towels on hand in case of a spill.

If you choose to purchase & dilute your own materials for this class instead of ordering our pre-made Raw Materials Kits, you will need the following:
