This annual NYCJW exhibitions features up to 25 designers who combine cutting edge design with responsible sourcing and practices. Using mercury-free gold from the Peruvian Amazon by miners whose names we know, we show that design and ethics go hand-in-hand.

A panel discussion between Renzo de la Peña, Eddie Ajalcrina, & Andrea Jose Castro, “Weaving Reciprocity” will be followed by a late lunch reception with Brazilian bites by Berimbau. We thank our lead sponsor, Wyss Academy, for their vital support of Reciprocity. Based at Bern University in Switzerland, Wyss Academy turns scientific insights into impactful conservation projects. Their South American hub has led initiatives to protect the Amazon, the source of gold for Reciprocity’s jewelry. In partnership with Peruvian fashiontech company Neofibers, Wyss Academy is showcasing a bio-jewelry collection co-created with designer Sumy Kujon and indigenous communities in Madre de Dios. Their initiative, “SHAY: Together for the Ancestral Art,” blends Western and ancestral arts, preserving traditional methods and promoting sustainable natural fibers. Wyss Academy’s commitment to environmental and cultural preservation makes them a valued partner in Reciprocity’s mission.
RECIPROCITY Jewels is an initiative that allows jewelry designers to collaborate directly with artisanal miners from Madre de Dios, Peru, modeling the power of the collective to create positive impact for source communities. Our goal is to humanize people’s view of the jewelry supply chain, showing that a clear path exists towards a gold supply chain with unprecedented levels of traceability, benefitting miners, designers, customers, and nature alike. The Reciprocity Jewels project creates an unprecedented educational opportunity for the jewelry industry, and it invites jewelry collectors to learn about the issues with mining, showing both groups how to actively be a part of the solutions.
Each November, NYC Jewelry Week proudly presents ‘The Week,’ a 7-day celebration dedicated to the art of jewelry. This annual event invites a global audience to explore the world of jewelry through a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual experiences, spanning New York City and beyond.
