The works on display in the narrow concept gallery Moonlab42 consider the concept of intimacy as an honored closeness; to receive from a position of disarmed attention and also mutually influence. Visitors will experience an installation designed to approximate the delight and wonder of visiting an artist’s studio.

RIMA JEWELS is the cumulative work and ongoing explorations of contemporary artist and studio jeweler working under the name Rocío Inès Marsyas. Rocío’s metal smithing practice began nearly two decades ago as an apprentice to fourth generation jeweler Israel Castillo who was then headquartered at a coastal port town in Central America. Her collections, limited edition pieces, and custom works marry an array of interests including the early history of alchemical practice, Roman antiquities and the richly textured history of vanitas paintings and their memento mori jewelry counterparts. Each collection and individual piece is meticulously crafted in Rocío Inès’ Manhattan studio with the delicacy, care, and discerning design considerations true to the artist’s imprimatur. Her most recent explorations have been in expanding and subverting the memento mori genre through one of a kind works in 24k gold which unearth ancient funerary gold traditions and sensibilities for use by the living.
MoonLab 42 is a satellite of a family-owned concept store 42 from Tbilisi, Georgia, run by Ruso Margishvili and John Holden, a Georgian-American couple living in Harlem, NYC. John works in TV production as a set dresser, and Ruso is an architectural designer. Their appreciation for curious architecture brought their attention to a 58” wide storefront tucked between two buildings on West 145th Street in the historic Sugar Hill District of Harlem. It is here that hey showcase and sell affordable artwork, objects, and home goods made by different artists. The owners created the shop with three goals: to provide a platform for emerging artists; to make artwork accessible to the wider community; and to celebrate the local culture and the rich heritage of Ruso’s home in Tbilisi, Georgia. Today, MoonLab 42 provides a vibrant platform for young artists and designers.
