Reception for solo by Danni Schwaag at NYC Jewelry Week 2024

An exhibition of new work by German artist and jeweler Danni Schwaag.

Presented by JB Jones and The Jewelry Library, this exhibition offers a behind-the-scenes look at Schwaag’s creative process, featuring sketchbooks, drawings, screenprints, photos, and videos of the artist’s performances. Known for socially and culturally relevant work, Schwaag often explores the human condition in relation to Germany’s social and political climate. Jewelry and art from the collections *solo/- movement*, *genderstars*, and *shut up* will be on display and available for purchase.

Danni Schwaag is a jewelry artist living and working in Bremen, Germany.

After training as a goldsmith, she studied Jewelry Design from 2004-2008 in Idar-Oberstein and in Barcelona at the Escola Massana. In 2013 her work was awarded with the Bremen Advancement Award for applied art for her series “l’art pour l’art” – an ironic view on the fine art scene.

Behind each group of works in Danni’s oeuvre, there is a story supported by intense research with colors, materials and their visual impact. mother-of-pearl and galalith, an early plastic (1900-1930), are two of the artist’s favorite and dominant materials, but she also combines wood, copper, enamel, threads or found objects to create her art pieces.

Danni’s work is featured in international galleries, museums including Turnov Collection|Museum Ceský, MAKK Museum for Applied Art, and private collections in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, USA and the Netherlands.

JB Jones is an independent jewelry creative specializing in marketing, storytelling, event curation and production.

In 2018, Jones co-founded NYC Jewelry Week with Bella Neyman. She is a co-host of the jewelry industry’s top podcast, Rough Cut, with Alain Simic, Emili Vesilind and Amy Elliot. Now based in Kansas, Jones focuses on independent projects related to jewelry, art, travel and rural storytelling.

Jones studied fashion design and worked as a Design Director in the luxury fashion industry for over 10 years between London and Los Angeles. In 2010, she switched gears and launched a street art gallery and emerging artists’ platform, The Site Unscene. She curated the first West Coast exhibition of the NYC’s graffiti crew TC-5 in LA, and was a leader in helping to establish street art as a legitimate force in the city’s gallery scene. In 2023, she penned a monthly column on contemporary jewelry for the Zing Report. Her work has appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, WWD, Juxtapoz and more.

The Jewelry Library (TJL) is a collaborative space curated for jewelry people by jewelry people. Founded in 2018, TJL hosts a wide range of exhibitions, talks, and events all across the jewelry-spectrum, collaborating with both contemporary and vintage gallerists, artists, and collectors, as well as storytellers, historians, makers, and wearers. Along with an archive, library, and gallery space–which houses the TJL collection of books and jewelry–there is a penthouse space, The Great Room @ The Jewelry Library, for larger community gatherings. In early 2025, TJL will be opening a multi-faceted ground floor space in the Chelsea-Nomad neighborhood.

Each November, NYC Jewelry Week proudly presents ‘The Week,’ a 7-day celebration dedicated to the art of jewelry. This annual event invites a global audience to explore the world of jewelry through a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual experiences, spanning New York City and beyond.
