Signatures + Styles: Françoise Caron (Online)

In a perfumer-oriented online talk, Dana El Masri teaches the arc and art of Françoise Caron’s perfumery style and career.

Perfumer Dana El Masri explores the perfumers that defined the classic and modern perfume industry in a new series. Focusing on perfumers with 20+ years of experience, these sessions will explore the careers and output of influential artists and movers in the field, creating a better awareness of the impact of individual styles.

This series is an excellent way to get to know your perfume history, learn about sometimes overlooked voices, and understand the trajectory of a perfumer’s style in fine fragrance.

There are no materials required for this class.

Perfumer covered: Françoise Caron

WHAT THIS CLASS ENTAILS

Each perfumer-oriented session starts with a brief biography of the perfumer studied. Perfumer Dana El Masri then covers the arc and art of the perfumer’s style throughout their career, showcasing and distinguishing the elements that make up the perfumer’s unique DNA — even when working across projects and in different genres for different brands.

Disclaimer: In this class, Dana covers information about perfumer styles. This is, in many ways, an evaluation class. We focus on who the perfumer is, the fine fragrances they worked on, and explore the commonalities and general DNA of a perfumer’s style. However, we will not be creating, compounding, or sharing samples of the perfumes discussed in class.

This is an online class. The Zoom link will be sent by email 24 hours before the class. If you cannot attend live, we will share access to the recorded class for 7 days with everyone who has registered for the class.

ABOUT THE PERFUMER SPOTLIGHT SERIES: INSTRUCTOR’S NOTE

As a perfumer and perfume fan, I have always been fascinated by perfumers’ creativity and imagination. In perfumery school, they taught us that the mark of a great perfumer was a distinctive style.

This is a chance to explore the uniqueness of each perfumer, how he/she changed fine fragrance as we know it today, and to learn more about what materials they use to create wonders!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR, DANA EL MASRI

Dana El Masri is an Arab-Canadian perfumer & interdisciplinary artist.

She was trained at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery, with a BA in Communication Studies from Concordia University. The owner and creator of Jazmin Saraï, a perfume brand exploring scent, sound & culture, Dana is also an interdisciplinary artist with experience in several cross-modal practices and private label collaborations. She has worked with fellow perfumers, musicians, lifestyle brands, hotels, art spaces and more.

Dana has been an Art & Olfaction Awards judge for several years and is a published fragrance writer, winner of a Jasmine Literary Award (UK) and a Perfumed Plume Award (US). Her most recent interdisciplinary work has revolved around multi-sensory movement and synesthetic practice in a piece called Σmotion.
